This is a small 5"x7" test piece I did to see if the colors would work together for a larger piece. Sometimes I end up liking the test piece better than the larger watercolor. Have not attempted the larger piece yet but will soon. I used Indigo, yellow ochre and burnt umber on Fabriano cold pressed watercolor paper. The textures in the landscape were achieved using cling film. I like to create a semi-abstract section in each of my watercolors.

Love this! The colors are perfect and the use of the cling film is really effective.
ReplyDeleteThanks Billie. I enjoyed the experiment.
DeleteLooks very nice. Would make a beautyful bigger painting. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Catharina.
DeleteI love the colours too Jean... work so well together, look forward to seeing the bigger piece though I do know what you mean about practice pieces... why does that happen? Maybe because we are not investing as much in the practice piece and can be freer with it?
ReplyDeleteJudith, I think you hit the nail on the head about being freer with the practice piece. We should consider that when painting all of our pieces.
DeleteLove the feel of this painting through the subtle colors and the strong patterns, I am sure the bigger piece will be attractive as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Padmaja. I hope you are right.
