We have had a few storms and some really cold days in Northern California this past week. Thought I would try to capture this in another atmospheric watercolor. I used an underpainting of lemon yellow and when it was dry I painted the clouds with indigo mixed with burnt sienna and a little raw sienna in the foreground. Size is 13.5" x 10".

Jean, this could be a painting of Scotland! your tree is wonderful very well painted and the tonal painting is really beautiful with lots of atmosphere. Very interesting to read about the colours you are using on the washes too. We have a covering of snow here today!

Charlene: Yes it is very different from "Fall Colors" - not my usual palette. I wish more bloggers would include the colors they use. It's interesting to know.
Padmaja: This was done fairly quickly. One cannot agonize over clouds, or they don't come out well.

ReplyDeleteJean, this is fantastic....just love that sky. was this inspired by some of our colour combos over on my 100 washes blog? Some of us have been using similar colours for blending and washing.....Wow, this one 'pops'

ReplyDeleteMaggie: Glad you like this. It is one of my favorites. Indigo is one of my staple colors and I use it in most of my paintings. I did this piece from a photo I took locally. I have been following your 100 Washes blog with great interest. There are some great color combinations. I like the way you do your wash landscapes and seascapes. They are very fresh and spontaneous looking.
